Shaun Redhead finally got a reward for his efforts with a hard fought third place finish at round seven of the Rockstar MX Nationals.
Under cool gray skies, the 18 year old charger competing in the Under 19 class, racked up his third podium finish for the year, the teams' seventh, with 5-3-3-2 finishes to tally 78 points and stand on the third step of the podium.
Recent rounds have seen Redhead battle hard but with no luck or reward but things were always going to turn as Redhead continually put his Yamaha YZ250F towards the front of the pack in Albury and spent the day battling for race wins in each of the four motos.
The podium position keeps him in third place in the championship, some 59 points clear of fourth place with two rounds remaining.
"It feels good to get back up here again," Redhead says from the podium. "I have been close the last few rounds but haven't managed to get to put four races together. My goal this weekend was to get good starts and ensure I put the same energy and focus into each race and it worked out well today."
"And as my mechanic, Cory keeps telling me, 'The carby still gets it done," Redhead laughs, speaking of his YZ250F.
A fall in race three ruined what shaped to be a double podium day for the team. Luke Arbon posted 2-5 finishes in the opening two motos of the day and looked in good form for the afternoon racing. But a crash in the opening lap when a rider fell directly in front of him left Arbon at the bottom of a pile up and with a very sore leg.
Despite the pain and the no points, he returned to the start line for race four and soldiered on for a fifth place finish to round out the day in sixth place.
Arbon still maintains second place in the championship after the seventh round but needs a barnstorming finish to snare the championship.
"It was a bit of a frustrating day," Arbon comments. "I probably should have won the first moto but wasn't aggressive enough, then to get involved in that pile up in race three really ruined the day."
"Still, it could have been a lot worse and although a bit sore, I'm injury free and will be ready to go for Moree," he finishes.
With nine races and two rounds to go, the GYTR Rockstar Yamaha team hold down second and third in the championship and will be out to post some big victories before the championship winds up at Coolum.
