Yamaha Introduces Excellent Sponsorship Package For
Supermono Competitors in The 2012 AFX-SBK Championship

In recent times Motard champions Angus Reekie (2011 FX Pro-Thunder Champion) and Phil Lovett (2011 Nakedbike and 2011 Formula Oz Champion) have made the successful jump from Motard racing to road racing and proven that racing their dirt bikes in Motard has greatly assisted their road racing skills.

With this in mind 2011 YRD and ARTRP set about setting up and running what was always meant to be an introductory class to road racing for MX based bikes so riders could enter at minimal extra cost on their existing 450 MX bikes into Supermono and go road racing. 2011 provided some excellent racing in Supermono and saw the mildy modded 450 dirt bikes often finish in front of 125GP bikes in the same race much to most everyone’s surprise.

Again thanks to Yamaha Motor Australia there will be an excellent Yamaha bike prize for the Supermono class in 2012, except this time it is for the overall top placed C or D grade competitor in Supermono rather than for the top placed rider overall. This and the discounted conversion kit for YZ450’s that comes with free entry fees is aimed at encouraging young up and coming competitors to give road racing a go to see how much fun they can have.

Yamaha’s support has not stopped there, every competitor in the Supermono class gets heavily discounted entry fee’s compared to the other classes in the championship series. The 2012 entry fee is now $145.00 per round which is a sizeable saving and keeps the Supermono class as the most affordable class of racing at a national level in Australia today.

Supermono competitors will once again get six races over the weekend in the combined nationally televised FX125GP/FX400/Supermono class.

Yamaha Motor Australia having returned as the major naming rights sponsor for the class have taken a different tack on how they support the class and its competitors, especially the new ones with unmodified late model 2010 -2012 YZ450F’s . The deal for 2012 sees any competitor that buys one of the heavily discounted conversion kits at $2495.00 inc gst to change their YZF to full Supermono spec also receive free entry fees for the Supermono class at the AFX-SBK in 2012 with a value of $870.00. All a competitor has to do is buy the kit from YRD (yrd@bigpond.com) and that is all they have to pay to race in the six round Supermono series.

The YZ450F kit Include’s the following and is suited to 2010 – 2012 models:

· Front wheel: JTR special hub and spokes with 3.5 x 17” rim
· Rear wheel: JTR special hub (with cush drive) and spokes with 5.0 x 17” rim
· Set Dunlop Alpha 12 production racing tyres with tubes
