 It wasn’t the most successful weekend that the Aluma-Lite Racing Team had ever experienced but it was enough for the team to walk away from the Australian Championships satisfied at a job well done with Ben Attard at the top of the point scores in the Australian Superstock 1000cc class on his Ducati 1198S after the weekend’s action at Queensland Raceway, Willowbank.
Ben didn’t taste the joy of victory over the weekend but put in some solid performances to maintain his championship lead over the weekend with two rounds of the Viking Australian Superbike Championships being held at the circuit.
Team mate John Allen put in some impressive performances in the Superbike class on the 1098R to remain in the Top 10 too, especially when considering the differences between the privateer Aluma- Lite outfit and the factory supported teams. But no matter what the results, it will be the last time in the immediate future that the Aluma- Lite Team will be seen at an Australian Championship round with team principal and owner Derek Williams explaining, “It is not as if we are giving up racing. Far from it, as everyone knows the passion I have for the sport but at this point in time we are leaving the Australian Superbike Championships. We will weigh our options but we do hope the ASBK can return to the position it once was but in our opinion some of the priorities have been lost and in this climate with a viable alternative now a serious consideration there is plenty of competition.
“It is not the way we want to go out of the series but feel we have no other option until the situation improves. I’d like to thank our sponsors and everyone that has supported us since our return to the Australian Championships. It hasn’t been an easy decision to make but, one that was forced upon us. I hope that everyone understands.”
