| From AAA|
The President of the Australian Automobile Association (AAA), Alan Evans, today announced the appointment of Mike Harris as the Association’s new Chief Executive. Mr Harris was previously the Chief Executive of the ACT Chief Minister’s Department.
Mr Evans welcomed the appointment, saying it would lift the AAA’s performance to new levels and increase its profile and role in representing motorists’ interests on road safety issues to government and stakeholders.
Mr Evans said Mr Harris had wide experience in transport related issues as he had held the position of Director-General of Transport in Western Australia before joining the ACT public sector.
“Mike Harris’ appointment will enable significant gains to be made by the AAA and Australia’s motoring clubs in arguing for increased investment in road infrastructure, better road safety programs and better driver training and education,” Mr Evans said.
“His detailed knowledge and understanding of transport issues, the public sector and government will ensure AAA continues to develop the strong relationships we currently have with the Federal government and agencies.”
Mr Harris said he was looking forward to the challenge of working for one of Australia’s leading consumer groups.
“AAA is well recognised for its ongoing advocacy on road safety, investment in roads and motorists’ issues such as petrol pricing – I am looking forward to this position,” he said.
Mr Harris will commence duties at AAA from Monday 22 February.
