Official ARTRP Press Release:
New Road Racing Promotions Company Announced For New Era Of Road Racing
Australian motorcycle road racing is about to enter a new phase of opportunity and stability with certainty for racers, sponsors and motorcycle distributors alike with the launch of a newly formed joint venture company apply named ‘Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions Pty Ltd’.
The Company has been formed with the goals of regenerating interest and growth in motorcycle road racing at a cost effective and affordable level. It will provide a high level of stability and certainty for sponsors, distributors, the industry and as previously stated most importantly competitors in these recent uncertain times. This will be achieved because of the combination of partners involved in the new Company.
Geoff Arnold of ARDC and one of the Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions founding partners said; “Benella Auto Club and Australian Racing Drivers Club, two of the largest and oldest motor sport clubs in Australia have been concerned for some time over the decline in participation rates in motor cycle racing. These clubs operate the Winton, Wakefield Park and Eastern Creek race circuits in Victoria and NSW. After a meeting held earlier this year, it was agreed that both clubs should work together wherever possible to encourage all forms of motor sport.”
Arnold added; “To this end, the Clubs sought out possible partners with the right level and fields of expertise to assist in developing new and affordable motorbike racing series, we are pleased that these initial discussions have seen the creation of a new joint venture between Winton Raceway; Wakefield Park Raceway; Eastern Creek Raceway; AVE TV and the Australasian Superbike Championship Company.”
Each of the five partners brings specific skill sets and assets to the new JV Company which will compliment each other in achieving the Companies stated goals for motorcycle road racing.
For the first time a National Road Racing Championship Series will be conducted under approval by a different sanctioning body, AASA. The AASA has successfully sanctioned affordable 4-wheel motorsport events as diverse and successful from club car racing through to the Targa Tasmania. AASA has been operating for over eight year’s and will now add motorcycle road racing to the categories it authorises in 2010.
Because of the close working relationship between the circuits and the sanctioning body Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions has been able to secure a finalised calendar with eight events spread across two main and one Club series for the 2010 racing season, this finalised calendar will allow riders and teams to approach sponsors with the certainty that the series they are intending to compete in will both be run professionally and on the announced dates at the announced venues.
The 2010 Calendar and Series Titles is as follows:
Australian Formula Xtreme Championship Series:
Rnd 1 ...26-28 March Wakefield Park Raceway NSW.
Rnd 2 ...4-6 June Winton Raceway Vic.
Rnd 3 ...2-4 July Eastern Creek Raceway NSW
Rnd 4 ...10-12 September Wakefield Park Raceway NSW
Rnd 5 ... 29-31 October Eastern Creek Raceway NSW (Series Finale)
Australasian FX Superbike Championship Series (Day / Night)
Rnd 1 ...3-4 December Eastern Creek Raceway NSW .........( Saturday Day/Night)
Rnd 2 ...11-12 December Wakefield Park Raceway NSW.....( Saturday / Sunday)
Rnd 3 ...17-18 December Winton Raceway Vic .....................(Saturday Day/Night)
Both series have been carefully formulated to keep the potentially huge costs of racing down as low as possible to a sustainable level for the vast majority of racers; this has been achieved with the tried and proven Formula Xtreme series structures and class rules. With about 80% of the nations existing competitors living within approximately a days drive from all three circuits both series will cater for the majority of racers who now will be able to race at Australian Championship level events without having to take large amounts of time off of work. This format will greatly reduce the high costs of travel and lost work days for competitors without reducing the level of professionalism or stature of the events.
On another and very important and progressive front the new venture company will own, produce and operate a road bike and track bike orientated magazine style TV series (Australian Road & Track Rider). The TV series will bring road and track tests of the latest sports bikes along with race series updates and interviews.
A specialist workshop at Wakefield Park Raceway is being built at present that will have a Dyno, specialist scales plus on board telemetry systems that will measure lap times, position on track, cornering, braking and acceleration forces and tacho read outs, top speeds etc. These and other technologies such as on board camera’s will all come together to produce the most comprehensive and accurate information available for road bike tests in Australia today. The plan is to also have a ‘Hot lap’ comparison from model to model as they are tested.
The track tests that will be seen on the Australian Road & Track Rider TV show will bring a previously unseen in Australia level of technical data including on board telemetry and dyno read outs that will showcase the latest sports bikes strengths
The Australian Road & Track Rider show is also considering partnering with one of the many specialist motorcycle magazines so they to can provide their readers with a level of information unseen before in this country.
With so much information to be released no one press release could do justice to all the important aspects of what will be implemented by Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions for 2010. With that in mind we would ask all interested parties and stakeholders to bear with us as we make a number of further announcements regarding the make up of both series over the next several weeks.
For further information please contact the general manager of Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions Terry O'Neill on 0419 448 452 in business hours.

AFXC & AFXSBK Series Details & Classes Announced
We are please to be able to announce this early in the year the classes for the 2010 Australian Formula Xtreme Championship and the Australasian FX Superbike Championship series along with the structure of the series. This gives all competitors six months to plan and work towards next years racing, the calendar has already been released previously.
The race distances and number of laps will be released next week along with details of the number of races per round.
As I had eluded to previously the March to October 5 round AFXC series will run on the Sunday of the five events with a separate series running on the Saturday. This will be basically the same format that we tried out at the final round of this years FX-TT series. There will be one qualifying session per class each day and then race positions will be earned for race 2 onwards by the finishing order of the previous race and so on.
Having two rounds of separate series on the one weekend will allow competitors to compete in either a Saturday based series or a Sunday series or both series over the same weekend.
We believe this is a first for Australian racing and it gives a huge amount of flexibility for competitors and teams as if they have one bad day that doesn't impact on the other days series points and outcome.
There will be a separate non compulsory Friday open practise day prior to the first 5 event series.
The classes for all the series are planned at this time to be the same at all rounds, this includes the three round summer series. The major difference between the Formula Xtreme class and the FX Superbike class will be that at the summer day night series in December the premier class will need to fit a headlight and a tail light. This will make the bikes look very similar to World Endurance Championship bikes and will add another dimension to road racing in Australia. The rules will be changed to allow the fitting of headlights and a tail-light for the first AFXC series that kicks off at the end of March but will not be compulsory.
The summer three round December series will have at least two day/night rounds with the main day being on the Saturday with racing happening up to 8:30 pm in the evening. At this stage the Wakefield Park round will have a Saturday practise day and a normal Sunday race day with racing going to approximately 5:00 pm.
I can confirm at this stage that the Formula Xtreme class rules will remain basically the same for the third year in a row (the Formula Xtreme rules are basically the same as the later introduced Superstock 1000 class), the FX class will also now go under the name of FX1000.
For 2010 the main and newly named 600 class will adopt the new name of FX600 (the FX600 class shares very similar rules to Superstock 600). The FX600 class will be open to all grades rather then being restricted to C&D graders.
I can also say all classes in both series next year will be open to all grades of license holder and each grade will have its own pointscore and championship.
The other classes will be the FX400 class which obviously caters for the 400 fields and the FX-125GP class will also get a run as a championship class. The Formula OZ class will remain the same and open to all bikes. There will be a open capacity class for bikes over 850cc in the Formula Oz pointscore and a 600 cc 4 cylinder Formula OZ score for those competitors wanting to race their Supersport bikes in the series.
Pro-Twins will return in 2010 with a new name and direction, new for 2010 on is Formula Thunder along with long overdue changes of having both a F1, F2 & F3 class, late model high performance sports bikes like the Ducati 848 will be eligible to compete in the F2 class so will a number of the older 1000cc V-twin sportsbikes that can no longer compete on an even playing field with the latest crop of 1198's and 1200 KTM's etc. Triumph 675's and other mid size Euro sports and even older big capacity Twins and Triples that aren't eligible for F1 and F2 will be eligible for the new F3 class. Nakedbike will as in 2009 also compete in the combined Twins race. Call us to find out more regarding any of the classes or Formula sub-classes.
At this stage there is no plan to have Juniors at the 2010 series but will be looking at this in the coming weeks.
The classes for all of our series are in 2010;
Formula Xtreme FX1000 ............(open to Superstock 1000 & Formula Xtreme machines)
Formula Oz................................(open to all bikes not in the other classes, including Superbike, Supersport etc etc.)
FX600 .......................................(similar to Superstock 600)
FX400 .......................................(open up to 400 cc 4-stroke multiple cylinder sports bikes)
FX-125GP ..................................(open to 125 cc 2-stroke GP machines with a Open class & a Sport standard class)
FX250M .....................................(open to 250 cc 4-stroke single cylinder machines like the Moriwaki MD250H etc.)
FX300M ......................................(open to MD250H type machines but with a upper capacity limit of 300 cc)
Formula Thunder F1, F2 & F3 /Nakedbike ........(Formerly Pro-Twins, rules changes about to be announced)
Again all classes in the 2010 Series will be open to all grades (A,B,C & D grade competitors) and they all will have their own series class grade championship.
Again in 2010 a number of classes will have limited numbers of control tyres for dry races, FX1000 and FX600 will have control treaded tyres, Formula Thunder (Pro-Twins) and NakedBike will have control slicks. If a race is declared wet then full wets will be allowed to be used in all classes and will not need to be brand specific.
Anyone wanting to find out further information or needs to ask any questions can contact myself on 0419 448 452 up to 7:00 pm at night or email me on admin@aus-superbikes.com.au.
Cheers,
Terry O'Neill

The recent announcement of the launch of the new motorcycle race promotions company Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions along with the two new Australian championship status series for 2010 has created an unprecedented amount of phone calls of support and emails from competitors and other stakeholders in the sport showing huge amounts of interest in what we have announced to date.
The general feedback we have received is that competitors are extremely happy that they can start to plan for next year so early on with certainty. This latest announcement again will reinforce with all of the sports stakeholders that we are on track to provide them with two professionally run and affordable fun series for them to compete in next year.

Dunlop Announced As Series Control Tyre
*Repeat* From ARTR
Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions is pleased to announce the winning tender for the 5 round 2010 Australian Formula Xtreme Championship Series (AFXC) and the 3 round Australasian FX Superbike Championship Series (AFXSBKC) with an added bonus of over $36,000 in contingency tyre prizes for the first time.
Dunlop will return for the next two years as the successful supplier of control tyres for the premier FX1000 (Formula Xtreme), FX600 and the F1 and F2 Pro-Twins classes.
The best news is that the new control treaded tyres will be supplied at a lower cost price in 2010.
These tyres have been specifically developed for Supersport & Superstock racing in the US and have been successfully used in a number of classes in the AMA Superbike series in 2009. for competitors and we have been assured the new model tyres offer better traction qualities while retaining excellent wear characteristics as they have been extensively tested through a number of classes at the AMA Superbike series in 2009.
On top of that we are pleased to announce over $33,000 in contingency tyre prizes split between the two treaded control tyre FX1000 and FX600 classes.
The FX1000 class will receive six sets of tyres per each of the eight (8) events in 2010 and 2011. The out right winner of the premier Formula Xtreme FX1000 class will win two sets of control tyres at each round. Second and third overall will get one set each as a prize and the top B grader will also get another set of tyres. Last but not least in the FX1000 class the top overall placed C&D grader at each round will also get a set of control tyres.
In the FX600 class at each event the first overall rider per round will receive a set of control tyres, so will the top placed B grader and the top placed C&D grader as well. These great tyre prizes give plenty of incentive for competitors in all grades to win their grade overall at each of the rounds in the two series in 2010.
These great tyre prizes and the lower cost for dry weather control tyres in the two treaded control tyre classes provides plenty of incentive for competitors to race in these already very cost effective classes at both the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship Series and the Summer Australasian FX Superbike Championship Series.
The general manager of Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions Terry O’Neill was pleased to say “It is great to be working with Dunlop and Monza Imports again for another two years, both companies have excellent proven track records in supplying the great products and service to Australian racers and series.” O’Neill added, “These new treaded and slick control dry weather tyres should really improve the level of racing while reducing costs for competitors competing in both series over the next two years which is a first in this day and age.”
Ken Wieden, Dunlop’s National Motorcycle Manager said, “This is great news for Dunlop. We were involved with the FX series in 2009 and are pleased Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions have the confidence with our product & service to choose us for this important contract. We see this as a fantastic opportunity to further involve ourselves with Australian Road Racing. Racing has always been a priority for us and is an important tool for us to develop and improve our product for the street rider. We look forward to our association with the FX series for the next 2 years and believe this new look series will generate some top level racing “
Information Regarding The New FX1000 & FX600 Control Dry Weather Treaded Tyre:

This tyre has been developed by Dunlop USA especially for the Superstock & Supersport racer. The Sportmax GP-A is a DOT treaded race tyre & offers excellent grip, handling, and durability. The rear tyre also features Jointless Band (JLB) construction to reduce tyre growth, hence cooler running for more consistent grip. The Sportmax GP-A has been chosen as the official tyre in the 2009 AMA series for the Daytona Sportbike, SuperSport & Moto-GT classes. The 190/55 –17 size is suitable for both 600cc & 1000cc fitment & is used on both capacity bikes in the AMA series. The Sportmax GP-A is manufactured in Dunlop’s USA manufacturing plant in Buffalo, N.Y.

The D211 Slick incorporates the latest in race tyre technology in both construction & compounds. The casing of this tyre is made in a similar method to the NTec & will offer similar performance characteristics. The D211 Slick also features Dunlop’s unique MT “multi tread” construction as on the NTec. The new compounds are a result of extensive testing & racing in 2009 so only the very latest compound mixes are used in this tyre. The rear will be available in a choice of medium or hard compounds the front in a soft or medium compound.
The new D211 Slick is being manufactured in Dunlop’s factory in Montlucon in France.

While the control treaded tyre will only come in one compound set in 2010 the control slick tyres in Pro-Twins will be available in two combinations. Soft and Medium fronts and Medium and hard rears. A maximum of two sets is allowed for each round of the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship rounds. For the FX1000 two sets is also the maximum number of tyres per round. The FX600 class will have a maximum of one set plus an extra rear per round to make allowances for A and B graders also competing in the class rather then it being limited to C & D graders.
The Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions Company is in a number of negotiations with potential sponsors for providing contingency prizes in all the classes at the two series in 2010 which are expected will boost the value in prizes for a number of classes including the Pro-Twins class.
