Kawasaki Australia Announces Move Into Superbike ‘04

Team Kawasaki Australia is putting together plans for a full-on assault on Australian Superbike Championship in 2004 with its all-new Kawasaki ZX-10R. The two-rider team is expected to fulfill both Superbike and Supersport duties.

“We believe that all the three new bikes for next year, the ZX-10R, the R1 and Honda will be pretty close, so we believe it will be reasonably competitive in its first year,” said Murray Sayle, Team Kawasaki team race manager of Team Green’s latest big-bore weapon.

“We’ve managed to get the ZX-6RR competitive by the second half of the year with a brand new team, a new rider and new bike so I think we will get the 10R up to speed in a similar time frame.

“We know it’s a big challenge, but we’ve made some important developments with the 600 this year and I believe we can transfer the same experience to the ZX-10R.”

Sayle confirmed that he was close to coming to terms with one rider and is on the hunt out for another. Incumbent Team Kawasaki rider Russell Holland is believed to be looking elsewhere for 2004, while Dan Stauffer is understood to have considered one of the Kawasaki seats for next year but looks like staying put at Nikon Yamaha.
